Tale of Blog Growth : Problogger

“What was ‘the tipping point’ for your blog?”
The question I often asked in the interview, and it is challenging to answer.Assumptions behind this question is that often there are several types of events that drives the blog in the spotlight. The reality is that it is not always this way..

ProBlogger is the tipping point: the dramatic growth

At ProBlogger, is the only real turning point type event that I decide when I can in an interview I did on another blog that I earned six figures a year of my blogging. Then (it was 2005), it was not making money from blogs (or if they do not talk about it), so it was a novelty that soon have passed around.

It took a lot of other bloggers, but also went viral on Slashdot, which was then the closest to social bookmarking.
Although I do not really think it would be quite different than saying that I have a six figure blogger in this interview, the effect was not small (in terms of traffic, but more importantly, in terms of the profile / brand) for a few reasons :

  1. The statement was somewhat controversial (the idea to make money on the “pure”medium, blogging was something that few were dead against) and that caused somebuzz. But when I was first to announce a full time blogger created a desire for others to do the same.
  2. The idea of blogging for money were sown in the minds of many. Because I was not only a living creating blogs, but also write about the trip here on ProBlogger, I think there was some credibility to that declaration.
  3. Coined the term ”ProBlogger” as the first and ProBlogger with a site called was that people started talking about making money from blogs like a pro blogger, who justbecame the site more.
While all this was great for the growth of ProBlogger and to build my profile, it was allpretty happy. I do not make a statement with all intentions to use it, but when the flow of the reaction started, I move quickly to the best of it.
